Tom W. Barron A Lifetime of Experience

Newnan native Lindsey Hand Barron founded Lindsey’s inc. in 1948 when he purchased the Austin Appliance Company, holding the Westinghouse Appliance franchise in Newnan. The R.E.A. was coming into Coweta County; so many people had no electricity, appliances, well pumps or wiring. The demand was great, and the supply of goods and electrical contractors was limited due to World War II. Lindsey’s Barron’s timing was good.

Starting with one truck and two electricians, the business quickly grew to include not only electrical, plumbing, heating and air-conditioning, but furniture and appliances as well as the Pepsi Cola franchise for 13 counties.

In 1958 Lindsey’s Inc. moved from LaGrange Street to the building now occupied by the Newnan Times Herald, and the real estate and insurance business began in the back of the furniture store. Lindsey Barron began selling off the original businesses, focusing on real estate and insurance. The Pepsi and furniture businesses were sold. Finally in 1962, the real estate business was relocated to its long-time site at 12 Jackson Street.

Throughout this time, Marvin Atchison and Hazel Collier were central figures in Lindsey’s Inc. The first real estate salesman was John bailey. Other early sales people included A.M. Bowen, who had been Lindsey Barron’s high school principal, Sam Kemp, Jean Pegram, R.H. Harrell and Bill Davis.

The insurance business was sold to Glover Insurance Company and the real estate business expanded to 10 Jackson Street. Lindsey Barron and Marvin Atchison helped Scott Hudgens put together the properties that comprised Shenandoah (Now White Oak and Summer Grove).

In 1973 Frank H. Barron joined his father in the business and in 1977 son Thomas W. “Chip” Barron also entered the business. At this time, Lindsey Barron sold the business to his sons as equal partners. Frank Barron became principle broker and President, and Chip Barron became associate broker and Executive Vice president. Lindsey Barron was elected to the position of Chairman of the Board.

Clifford B. “Gandy” Glover, III, a two-term Mayor of Newnan, joined the firm in 1970 and R.L. “Bud” Freeburg, became associated with the company in 1984. Both are consistent million dollar producers, as are Tom Leiby, Dawn Sosby, Kim Ivery, Carol Holden, Alec Boccuti, Cam Carden, Sandra Cenkner, Inez Gardner, and Angie Hogsed Tom Barron. Other full time associates are Deborah Boccuti, Toni Blankenship, Luke Headley, Chip Gordon, Chris Umbach, David McMichael (Trainer), Alyson Ward, John Young and Brian Pierce.

The Secretarial staff has long been the backbone of Lindsey’s Inc., and the present staff now includes Office Manager and Vice President in charge of Operations Debbie McKoy, Mary Robertson, Dianne Ferrell, Gale Robbins and Bonita Mitchell.

A new era began for Lindsey’s Inc., with its move to 14 Jackson Street where the floor space available more than doubled. There are twenty five sales agents’ offices, a reception area, secretarial area, an information and computer center, a sign room, a kitchen, and a sales auditorium.

There are also four conference rooms. One is named in honor of Marvin Atchison, now deceased, who was the sales manager for 31 years. Marvin was a fixture at the First Baptist Church and Sprayberry’s Barbecue. He was much loved and appreciated by the people of Newnan and Coweta County.

A second conference room is named in honor of Hazel Collier, long-time secretary and bookkeeper and an important part of the early years of Lindsey’s.

A third conference room is named in honor of Debbie McKoy, who has completed 28 years of service. She is presently Office Manager and Vice President in charge of Operations. Her memory is legendary, and her wit and smile keep the office bright and cheerful.

The fourth conference room is the Jasper Gibbs Room. Jasper holds the longest association with Lindsey’s Inc., first doing odd jobs at age 13 and learning various trades. It is often said that Lindsey’s Inc. cannot function properly if Jasper cannot be found. He now has his own maintenance and repair business and often does various work for Lindsey’s.

Lindsey’s Inc. is a leader in sales of residential, commercial, and industrial properties in Newnan, Coweta County, and the surrounding area. Farms and lands are, and always have been, an important part of the business. Early developments by Lindsey’s include Sherwood Forest, Windsor Estates, Eastwood, and Lynhaven.

Lindsey’s Inc. is also involved in commercial leases. Many downtown store buildings in Newnan are either managed by or owned by principals of Lindsey’s Inc.
